More goodies for lucky Bostonians! M.I.T. has notably diverse and distinguished composers among its faculty and visiting artists, and four of them will be speaking this fall as part of the institute’s Composers Forum. The series kicks off on October 20 with Tod Machover, who will be speaking about his forthcoming CD, …but not simpler…, music for orchestra and string quartet. On November 10, Julia Wolfe will speak about her composition Steel Hammer, which will be performed by Bang on a Can All Stars on November 12 at M.I.T.’S Kresge auditorium. Pulitzer-winning composer John Harbison will speak on November 21 about his Symphony No 6, which will be premiered by the Boston Symphony Orchestra this season. And on December 12, Terry Riley will talk about his new commission by M.I.T.’s Gamelan Galak Tika ensemble, which will premiere the work on December 15 at Kresge auditorium.
All Composer Forum talks are at 5PM at the Lewis Music Library, 160 Memorial Drive. Details here.
