Interview with Tod Machover 2: Assembling the Creative Team

This is the second of Tod’s three-part interview about the history behind Death and the Powers (didn’t I tell you we had a LOT to talk about?). Here, Tod discusses how the first part of the creative team came together – Robert Pinsky, Diane Paulus, Randy Weiner, and Alex McDowell – and worked as a unit to create the early drafts of the libretto. Rather than starting from a novel, Tod wanted to create an unconventional story, and so he needed people with similarly unconventional backgrounds to help the opera come to life.

You can read more about these truly amazing people and the work they’ve done (ranging from the Donkey Show to Fight Club) on the Powers website.

Next up: part three of this interview – From the Libretto to Monaco – coming very shortly!
