Interview with David Woolard, Costume Designer

I was wandering around backstage at the Salle Garnier when I stumbled across the (very hot) wardrobe room, where David Woolard was finishing up the final touches on the suit jackets of the delegates from the United Nations, the United Way, and the Administration. David has designed costumes for such Broadway shows as  West Side Story, Bells are Ringing, and Damn Yankees, and has been nominated for a Tony for his work on The Rocky Horror Show and The Who’s Tommy. He also worked previously with director Diane Paulus on The Donkey Show. Here he kindly allowed me to interrupt his work to film this interview, where he talks about his approach to designing each character’s look and keeping the humanity alive in a show narrated by robots!
